'SAME PLANET DIFFERENT WORLD' experience the underwater world with a TRY-DIVE with OCEAN SPORTS. We have over 30 years of experience of introducing people to the delights of the underwater world that surrounds our country.

Pool Dives are conducted in a heated pool at a local camp site 'Sun Valley' at Pentewan & 'Sea View' at Boswinger. They are held on a Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from Easter - October and cost £15 per session. The dive involves a brief beforehand about the kit to be used and how it works and what we will be doing. Afterwards we will be under the water for around 10-15 minutes. This is a great way to find out what its like to be imersed under the water for a period of time in a relatively safe enviroment. For more details or to book a slot please contact us on 01726 842817

Sea Dives For those more experienced divers, contact either the local dive club listed on our Links page who are happy to take visiting divers out for a boat dive for a nominal fee or call in to the shop for a chat (free) about where the best shore and boat dives are. We can also recommend another dive company that will take divers out in the sea.

Explore the underwater world that surrounds our coastline with our guided snorkel safaris. The snorkel safaris are run in several coves and sheltered bays around the Pentewan, Mevagissey and Gorran area. Keep a look-out for star fish, sea anemones, shoals of fish or that crab meandering across the sand. Our experienced instructors and guides are on hand to help you get the most of this activity. We also provide you with buoyancy aid, mask, fins, and not forgetting a snorkel that will enable you to view the seabed and sea life safely from above. You can of course bring your own. We can also provide wetsuits for a small hire fee or again you can use your own.

If you wish to purchase and then use your own equipment, we can by pre-arrangement supply: wetsuits (from £15), masks, fins and snorkels at very competitive prices both in childrens and adults sizes.

The snorkel safaris are run two days a week during the summer and last approx 2 hours. For reasons of safety, we have a maximum number of guests so it is essential to pre-book. Weather can effect the running of the snorkel safaris so we also need a contact number in case of change of venue or postponement.

Snorkel Safari Overview: We make sure that all participants have the correct equipment. There then follows a brief about the equipment to be used (how and why) and the different kit on the market, safety talk which will vary from location and by the day, in water time will depend on water temp and conditions with a safety vessel at hand , finish with a debreif.

To enquire about dates and prices or to book, please contact us either on tel: 01726 842817 or email:

We look forward to exploring another world with you!

Paddle Clinic

Learn how to improve your paddle technique with our specially designed PADDLE CLINICS. Run by B.C.U (British Canoe Union) Instuctors, we coach from beginner up to and including Intermediate Level and can offer constructive coaching on SIT-ON-TOPS, TOURING & GENERAL PURPOSE KAYAKS as well as CANADIAN CANOES.

Sessions are based on the '3 Bs' principle, BODY-BOAT-BLADE and include Forward Paddling, Backward Paddling, Steering, Stopping, Going Sideways, Capsize Drill, Health & Safety, Lifting & Carrying, Equipment, Sea Safety, Weather & Tides.

The PADDLE CLINIC session lasts for 2 hours and if you have a specific issue that you need help with that you have identified before you arrive e.g. steering or paddling forward, then you can let us know prior to arrival along with the type of craft you will be using so that we can specifically target that area for improvment.

To Book and to participate in the PADDLE CLINIC, you will need to provide your own Sit-on-top, Kayak or Canoe, Paddle and Buoyancy Aid all in a safe, useable condition. You will also need to inform us of the numbers (We have a limit on the number of craft/people that can take part), any medical condition that you/they may have that may hinder your/their participation along with your/their swimming ability and what type of craft you will be using. To save time it is advisable for participants to purchase any equipment i.e.: wetsuits, buoyancy aids, spray tops, paddles, paddle leashes, dry bags etc that you may need (which can be purchased from OCEAN SPORTS) before the day of the PADDLE CLINIC.

DATES: Contact us to arrange a suitable day and time.

We look forward to helping you to becoming a safe and competent paddler on the water!

Kayaking around Pentewan

Explore the coastline of Mevagissey bay from a kayak or sit-on top. Paddle to those interesting coves that are only accessible from the sea while navigating around those rocky outcrops. Why not stop off for a picnic or pop into Mevagissey for Fish and Chips? If you are feeling more adventurous! paddle around Black Head and past Silver Mines to Charlestown and see the tall ships or kayak to Gorran Haven venturing around Chapel Point or visit the seals on the Gwingeas rocks!

Just remember that you are on the sea and should take note of the weather conditions and forcast in advance of setting off.

Also, we would reccomend that you, wear not only an appropriate buoyancy aid (with whistle) and wetsuit or drysuit but you tell someone on land where you are going and how long you will be (please tell them when you get back). Have a suitable means of comunication, such as a VHF radio, but at least a mobile phone in a waterproof case like the Aquapac cases, that mean that you can use your phone without taking it out of its waterproof case. Also never set out on the sea without a paddle leash and a bottle of water and some snacks. A dry bag such as the Crewsaver Bute dry bag with flares and waterproof torch.

For more details checkout the R.N.L.I. STAY SAFE IN YOUR KAYAK leaflet.

For those wanting advice and practical experience with trained instuctors why not book a PADDLE CLINIC class (see above). Happy paddling.
